A Tisket, A Tasket....

...two Kittehs in a basket!!

Moses and Jick-Jack-Tick-Tack-Rick-Rack-Jack lounge together in this basket. I never know what I will find when I visit the thrift store. My latest score was this cute little kitteh basket bed thing. The cats all LOVE it and rarely will you find it empty. Usually, there are two cats mooshed into it. It was worth every penny of the $2.99 I spent.

The Thrill of The Hunt

I remember a time when I thought thrift stores were beneath me. Afterall, the only things that were there were unwanted items. Surely, nothing of any value could be found in a second-hand store. Right?

WRONG!

I'm here to tell you: Thrifting is absolutely one of my favorite hobbies. I've had a change of heart. That is right! Now, I actually map out time...BIG CHUNKS of time to scour the shelves of thrift stores.

I usually set out with an open mind. I try not to limit myself too much on looking for particular items; although, I might say that I hope to find a basket, or bed sheets. They are pretty common items, but sometimes, I look for a certain shape of basket or a certain color of sheets.

I have my favorite stores I like to haunt. When I open the doors, there is definitely a rhythm I follow. And usually, there isn't a department I don't scuff up the floors a little.

This weekend, my neighbor, Rachel, and I went to three different thrift shops. After not spending a lot of money, I came home with quite a haul! I was so proud of myself. I ended up with a pair of jammy pants and blue jeans for Alex, a new supply of dinner plates, a vintage camera, a brass piano lamp, storybooks, a snowsuit, a computer game for Quincy, two pairs of snow goggles for the kids to use while sledding, three big, sturdy baskets, a chalkboard/whiteboard memo thingy, a rug with coffee cup motifs, china cups and saucers....goodness gracious! I was so proud all my purchases! I think one of my favorite scores was the set of four kitty cat plates and a free french press coffee maker. I couldn't believe it! Now guess what? I'm on the hunt for a plate hanger with three or four slots. It's out there. I will find it. I just know it.

I absolutely love the feeling when I find something I had wished for. That, for me, is the thrill of the hunt!

Thrift Store Score

I stopped in at the little thrift shop in Kiowa yesterday and found this adorable little white vase. It is so simple and so elegant all in one neat little package.
Sadly, the flowers my children presented to me on Mother's Day are starting to expire. I took the remaining flowers that still look good and moved them into this smaller space. I think the miniaturized arrangement still holds some appeal.
I loved that there were Mums in the "Mum's Day Bouquet!" Clever!

Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!

Okay! Now that it is finished...maybe noone will have to hear anymore about this project!

I bought a paper box full of 12 skeins of Lion Brand Chenille yarn at a yard sale. The gal who was selling had started to knit an afghan. Apparently, she gave up and lost interest and sold the whole lot of yarn to me for a whopping THREE BUCKS! I unraveled all of the sloppy knitting and crocheted this lovely shawl. I made it a little larger than the shawls I typically make. It is VERY snuggly and and warm. All the kids love to cuddle with it...so does Moses! She curls up in it and falls asleep.

I can hardly wait for a cool Autumn morning when I can drape this around my shoulders and sip my latte.

Here's to yard sales and FINISHED PROJECTS!

Happy Saturday Five

Fresh Doughnuts!
Cool Air
Herbs are Growing
Yard Sales
Found Treasures

Gosh! I can't decide if my favorite buy today was the red fabric with beads and glitter, the box of 12 skeins of Lion Brand Chenille yarn, or the Lyle Lovett "Pontiac" CD. I plan to transform the red piece of fabric into a skirt. It is the perfect red and the sparkles are just perfect, too. Not too big, not too flashy! Just enough to give a little glamorous glint. It was in the clearance bin and goodness knows I'm crazy for a clearance sale. I HATE to pay full price for anything. I am not different from any other bargain hound. I want to stretch my dollar just as far as I can, too!

The Chenille will become another shawl. I should have plenty to make a nice sized shawl. The yarn labels were still on the skeins. That stuff was originally 7 dollars per skein. And I swooped up the whole box for a mind-boggling 3 dollars! I feel very blessed about that! Moses really likes the chenille! I can't keep him OUT of it! Goofy Cat!
